The King’s back.

Kanye West Readies the Runway for Paris Fashion Week Debut

Kanye West is ready to present his next masterpiece to the world. The creative mastermind has been quietly working on his first womenswear line, set to debut this weekend at Paris Fashion Week.

There is not much known about the spring/summer 2012 ready-to-wear collection, not even the official name. A simple white invitation went out to fashion insiders with the letters “Dw” inscribed at the top. Some have interpreted it to represent the initials of West’s mother, the late Donda West. Around 100 select individuals from all over the world were invited to witness the rapper’s vision come to life on the runway.

Mr. West has assembled a team of Central Saint Martins College graduates to assist with the designs, which are reportedly outrageous and almost unwearable. According to The Guardian, the collection is rumored to be a mix of sports luxe, Japanese samurai, and experimental knitwear and will contain gold or peach color schemes.

The trendsetting superstar, whose first foray into fashion was with the short-lived Pastelle in 2009, released a limited line of scarves based off his Dark Fantasy artwork earlier this year. He interned at Fendi one summer and called on Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci to direct the artwork for Watch the Throne.
Find out what surprises Kanye will unleash on the fashion industry when his womenswear line debuts on Saturday at 9:30 p.m.

Jay-Z Hosts Carnival for a Good Cause

It was all fun and games as Jay-Z hosted a magical evening to benefit the Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation at Pier 54 in New York City on Thursday (Sept. 29). Tickets for the carnival-themed “Making the Ordinary Extraordinary” event cost $1,000 apiece, with proceeds going towards his organization, which helps those with socio-economic hardships pursue higher education.

Mr. Carter smoked a cigar and laughed it up with his Yankees pal Alex Rodriguez inside the lavish affair. His proud mother Gloria Carter, who is CEO of the foundation, raffled off a Chrysler 300 to one lucky man. Guests enjoyed rides such as the Sizzler and the Zipper, dined on fancy fare from Momofuku Milk Bar and the Spotted Pig, and played games including darts, Whac-a-Mole, and basketball shootout. Instead of winning novelty items, prizes included Gibson guitars, Prada glasses, Nobu gift certificates, and Nets tickets.

Envy all the action by checking out photos from the festivities.

J. Cole’s ‘Cole World’ Puts Up Big Numbers in First Week

J. Cole is taking his buzz to the bank. The Roc star is set to make a big splash on the albums chart next week with his debut.

Cole World: The Sideline Story, the long-awaited album from the North Carolina MC, is surpassing label expectations and is on track to sell 225,000-250,000 copies in its first week, reports HITS Daily Double. This would land him at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, knocking off current champ Tony Bennett.

The album, which features collaborations with Jay-Z, Drake, Missy Elliott, and Trey Songz, holds at No. 1 on iTunes, outselling Blink-182 and Adele.

Some stores have already sold out of the CD, according to Cole. “Yall sold out so many stores today. Itunes it for now, stores will re-up tomorrow. We on pace. Much Love!” he tweeted to his fans.

[New Music]: Miranda Brooke – ‘Hater’

Miranda Brooke makes a bold introduction with her debut single “Hater.” Akon’s brother and Def Jam A&R executive Bu Thiam signed the R&B singer to his Bu Vision/Def Jam imprint after interest from Pharrell and Jermaine Dupri.

The Chattanooga, Tennessee native, who counts TLC, Xscape, Aaliyah, and Missy Elliott among her favorites, is working on her debut album with hitmakers including JD and Bryan-Michael Cox.

She keeps it blunt on “Hater,” produced by Sham (Sak Pase). “It’s a song about ugly feelings,” explains Miranda. “It’s about jealousy, insecurity, and weakness, but it’s honest.”

[New Music]: B.o.B f/ Lil Wayne – ‘Strange Clouds’

B.o.B comes back with a vengeance on “Strange Clouds,” the first offering from his upcoming sophomore album. The Grand Hustle rapper trades aggressive rhymes with Lil Wayne over the foreboding beat, which will captivate hip-hop heads and radio alike. Instead of showering his girl with compliments on lighter tracks such as “Nothin’ on You,” Bobby Ray rains down on the hater parade.

“These ni**as wake up on my dick, at least have some breakfast first/ Ni**a keep your nourishment first and your mind on my lyrics ’cause what you hoping to accomplish, I already did it, bitch,” he raps.

Tunechi Li floats on that “Arnold Schwarzenegger” and arrests the beat with his wicked wordplay, rhyming igloo with jiu-jitsu. Prepare for the storm.

[New Music]: Bow Wow – ‘Heaven’

Bow Wow’s on a roll. Before releasing his album Underrated on December 6,  plans to release a new mixtape, I’m Better Than You,  hitting the Internet at 12 a.m. EST tonight. On the soulful first single “Heaven,” he addresses bloggers, his father, and haters who want to know who he’s dating. “Lame,” produced by frequent collaborator Jermaine Dupri, boasts pompous rhymes about stuntin’ in the club. The 11-track mixtape will also include his latest collaboration with Chris Brown, “2 Young to Give a Fuck.”

Review Roundup: J. Cole – ‘Cole World: The Sideline Story’

After a two-year wait and mounting expectations, Jay-Z’s 26-year-old protégé J. Cole gets off the bench and steps into the spotlight with his Roc Nation debut Cole World: The Sideline Story, in stores today. The North Carolina MC assembles an all-star team of talent including Jay-Z, Missy Elliott, Drake, and Trey Songz on the 19 tracks. Does the hip-hop freshman have what it takes to play in the big leagues? The critics weigh in.

Rolling Stone: He’s a technically superb rapper, packing these sleek, snappy, mostly self-produced tracks with dozens of great punch lines. But while he tries to wring pathos out of everything from career struggles to unplanned pregnancies, the melodrama feels rote; the rhymes hit the mark but the stories leave you cold. 3.5/5

Entertainment Weekly: Bigger names in hip-hop have released albums this year, but few trump this debut. Cole, who’s been studying under label head Jay-Z for two years, seems to have learned plenty. Cole World: The Sideline Story is a well-rounded effort, and deeper than most, offering cuts that tackle unplanned pregnancy (“Lost Ones”) and uncertain love (“Nobody’s Perfect”). B+

USA Today: After waiting nearly two years for his mainstream debut, Jay-Z’s protégé shoulders the weight of expectations with a confident first effort. The North Carolina rapper tells his story of struggle and triumph with incisive rhymes over soulful beats that, for the most part, Cole produced himself. 3/4

The New York Times: Cole World captures the struggle between Mr. Cole’s natural gifts and the perceived exigencies of the marketplace. On this album he’s a slick rapper who spends too much time shouting and a thoughtful rapper who wears his bawdiness awkwardly.

Los Angeles Times: Even opposite Jay-Z in “Mr. Nice Watch” J. Cole sounds assured of his skills—and of the uncommon detail he brings to an otherwise familiar rags-to-riches narrative. But J. Cole’s early-onset veteran status also saps some of the energy you’d hope to hear on a debut as feverishly anticipated as this one, especially in cuts like “Never Told.” 2.5/4

The Washington Post: Cole is a deft rapper, clever but not obsessed with his own cleverness, interested in au courant beats but not fixated on them. There’s nothing particularly dramatic about his debut—it’s simply a better version of albums that get made all the time. Cole makes good songs almost great, and makes filler tolerable.

The Boston Globe: The story goes that Jay-Z told Cole he had his whole life to make his debut album. Cole may have taken that literally, but it was worth it.

SuzzOrLose's Favorite Tracks: “Can’t Get Enough,” "Dollar and A Dream", “Mr. Nice Watch,” “Nobody’s Perfect,” “Breakdown"

[New Music]: Trey Songz “Whoever Else”

Trey released the snippet a few weeks ago but today decided to let go of the full version of his new track which shows off some of his rap skills. #Lemmeholdatbeat 2 & Anticipation 2 both dropping on November 1st.

Who Is Troy Davis? Moguls Speak Out Against His Execution

"Who Is Troy Davis” has been one of Twitter’s top trending topics this morning. Davis is scheduled to be sentenced to death by the state of Georgia this evening.

In 1991 Davis was convicted of the August 19, 1989 murder of Officer Mark McPhails in Savannah, Georgia. McPhails was off-duty at the time, working as security guard when the shooting occured. He was shot twice trying to intervene during an assault on another man.

Davis has maintained his innocence since, and the verdict has been appealed several times on the grounds that Davis had not received a fair trial. Davis’ execution date has been stayed on three previous occasions as a result. Despite these appeals – due in large part to witnesses recanting some or their entire story - The U. S. District Court for the Southern District of Georgia upheld the conviction in August 2010. Further appeals were rejected and Davis was set to be executed at 7PM September 21, 2011.

Over the years Davis has garnered the support of Amnesty International, former president Jimmy Carter, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and many more, each calling for Davis to be retried or to receive an evidentiary hearing. Davis has also received love from the hip-hop community.

As his execution inches closer and closer, the likes of Diddy, ?uestlove, Killer Mike and Russell Simmons have all come out to share their support in stopping the execution. One of the most vocal people has been Outkast’s Big Boi. The Atlien has taken to his Twitter, seemingly making it his mission to get people in and out of Atlanta mobilized and ready to protest.

“Time to hit the streets people!!!! #Troydavis Rally at the prison in Jackson Georgia 4:00 pm , time to be seen!!!!!," he tweeted. “Judge Penny Freezeman is apparently the only one that can stop the UNJUST execution of Troy Davis: 912-652-7252”

Ironically many users have accused Twitter of blocking Davis’ name from becoming a trending topic, but it hasn’t stopped Big Boi. He’s urged his followers and friends’ followers to make their voice heard
“We don't need a trending topic , we need boots on the ground, meet me in Jackson Georgia 40 miles outside Atlanta !!! #Troydavis," Big Boi wrote on the social networking site.
Sir Lucious Leftfoot isn’t the only person getting out there to fight. Lupe Fiasco had a show in Atlanta Tuesday evening and during his performance of “Superstar,” he took the opportunity to voice his support altering the songs lyrics.

“Like the Governor called and he told ‘em to wait, unstrap ‘em from the chair put Troy back in the A. Ya’ll thought I didn’t know about that did y’all? Y’all was hitting me up on Twitter like ‘say something about Troy Davis.’ I was like ‘wait, I’m going to say something. Let that boy come home.’ At the same time rest in peace to officer McPhails,” said Lupe.

“That’s the name of the officer that was killed 10 years ago and they still can find who did it. So we send condolences and everything out to his family but the same time too we want truth and we want justice. We don’t want to send two victims to the gravediggers “

Ray J vs. Fabolous Fight Footage Leaks, 50 Cent Speaks Out

Ray J and Fabolous have each shared their accounts of what happened in Las Vegas over the weekend. Now TMZ has obtained footage from the fight that occurred backstage at Fab’s concert at the Palms. In the iPhone-filmed clip, 50 is seen standing against the wall before Ray J confronts Fab. There is a scuffle and exchange of words, but it’s difficult to make out exactly what happened.

Before the footage leaked, 50 checked in with Funkmaster Flex on Hot 97, offering his take on their showdown. He claims Ray J tapped Fabolous on the shoulders and swung at him, but Fab wasn’t hurt. “There was a swing, but it didn’t land on nothing, so you can’t call it a punch,” he said.
“Fab is looking at him like he’s crazy,” added 50, whose new album is due in November. “He said, ‘Whoa. Have you lost your mind right now?’”

The G-Unit mogul corroborated with what Fabolous said earlier, hinting that Ray J may have been on something. “I think [Ray J] had a little bit of juice in him.”
50 stepped in to break it up before things escalated further. “I pushed Fab and his brother Paul to the side. It wasn’t really a good look.”

Footage of their Vegas brawl can be seen below.

[Video]: @Kreayshawn Covers Complex: Talks The N-Word & Pimping Chicks On Craigslist

Shocked? Yeah, us too. On the other side of Complex’s October/November cover is Bay Area rapper, Kreayshawn. Again, issue newsstands on October 4th, but you can peruse the feature here.

Is Kreayshawn a ‘G’? Before snagged a million dollar deal with Columbia Records and beefing with the likes of rappers Rick Ross and The Game, she was out in the streets pimping bishes, literally. She’s covering the new October/November issue of Complex magazine and inside, she talks about her friend V-Nasty’s constant use of the n-word, her former hustle of pimping girls on Craigslist as well as wanting to slap Game in the face.
On the use of the N-Word
Why do I keep getting dissed and gotta ignore it like nothing is going on? I’ve never said it one time in my motherf*cking life… Everyone thinks I’m Vanessa [V-Nasty] and I have to answer [for her actions] every day in every f*cking interview.”
I’ve sat down and had talks with [V-Nasty], like, ‘Please, if you took this word out of your vocabulary, it would help your career. It would really help mine.’ She’s just been like, ‘This is who I am. This is how I was raised. I’m not gonna change for anybody,’ and I respect that. She doesn’t have to listen to me.”
On her former career of dealing coke and pimping girls out on Craigslist
I quit IKEA and started trapping full-time. I was driving around in a pink Mustang at two in the morning, no license, with like two 15s in the trunk, serving knots. Then these girls I met, they were on their hustle, too. They brought me this new idea, it was safer than selling drugs. I posted the links for them, took the anonymous pictures, and set up the dates and prices.”
On Game saying he’s going to put a rifle in her face because of the n-word situation
“I’m going to say, ‘Game’s a weak ass Blood, he ain’t about to do sh*t.
[After manager tries to step in] “Am I just supposed to get dissed every day and be a weak ass little white b*tch? F*ck that sh*t. I’m tired of people disrespecting me.”
Kreayshawn ain’t about that life..

The sexy singer, arousing in a skin-tight dress, also explained how women go crazy for Simon Cowell’s “moobs” and did a pretty damn good impression of Britney Spears as she sang “Oops!…I Did It Again.” “It’s like a form of flattery ’cause I love Britney,” said Nicole.

[Audio]: Fabolous Laughs Off Ray J’s Claims After Vegas Showdown

You’ve heard Ray J’s side of the story, now hear what Fabolous had to say when he called in to DJ Clue’s Power 105.1 radio show this afternoon. A calm Fab laughed off the “One Wish” singer’s claims that he was assaulted in Las Vegas over the weekend (“Ray J is not swinging”). Among the highlights…

• He took Ray J’s fiery interview with “The Breakfast Club” in good fun, but asserted that there were no punches thrown. “It was a good, funny story, cool story, good joke, could be a movie one day, but at the end of the day, there’s no way that Ray J is getting off on me. No way, never ever happened—ever.”
• He hinted that Ray J may have been on drugs at the time. “You need to clean yourself up, get yourself right,” advised Fab, who said his shades were the only thing lost in the scuffle. “At the end of the day, I’m grown.”
• When Clue asked if the beef could be squashed, he responded, “There’s nothing to squash,” adding, “We could progress in our own ways. I could go my way, he could go his way. He could continue playing the piano at Floyd [Mayweather's] crib if he wants and I’ll continue to do what I do.”

Kid Cudi Covers Complex: Talks Kanye’s Therapy, Quitting Weed & Finding Love

Cudder returns to the cover of Complex for their October/November 2011 issue. Mag occupies newsstands October 4th, but the entire thing is available to read now. Excerpt from the cover story below.

Kid Cudi has done some major house cleaning when it comes to his life and career! After a video was released of him stumbling out of a club drunk last year, he disappeared briefly afterward to get himself and his business in order. He recently sat down with Complex magazine before his overseas tour to talk about his darkest days during his battle with detox and sobriety as well as his decision to manage himself. He also touched on the stress of creating music without the influence of marijuana, attempting to not fail at love with his ride-or-die chick, his future in acting and how kicking it with Kanye was therapy for him. Check out a few excerpts:
On Spending Time With Kanye in New York  I was at another place, another dark place. Me and my girl had broken up. I wasn’t fully healed yet. And being around Kanye and music was my escape. He’s a sober guy, he has a drink every once in a while, but seeing how he throws himself into the studio when he’s stressing about something, I totally admire that. Being around that was therapy for me.
On Getting Back With His Girl Yeah, we’re solid. I’m just trying to figure out love. I never was really good a it, but when you have someone who loves you so much and can take your good and your bad, and work with you and help you grow—that’s priceless. To have a ride-or-die woman, for somebody that’s in the position I’m in, that’s a once-in-a-lifetime thing.

On Why He disappeared after he released his last album I wanted to clear my head, besides detox. I had to look at the root of the whole problem, and that was work and the business. I wasn’t trying to hear it from nobody. I’m not even going to attack the people in my life that didn’t step in and try to stop it, ’cause I was just so bullheaded. There’s no way to slow somebody when they’re speeding down a path of destruction.

I thought I was dealing with it in the proper way. I was in the moment. And when you’re that young, with that opportunity, all that money, and all that respect and power, sometimes you run with it. ’Cause I was like, “Man, you don’t know if this shit’s gon’ be here tomorrow.”

On Quitting Weed & Controlling His Liquor Like, party a bit? It was easy for me to quit smoking weed because I stopped liking the way it made me feel. I didn’t like being one foot in, one foot out of reality. I could be blitzed out of my skull and somebody might be plotting to snuff me in the club. I can still sip my whiskey but I control my intake of liquor. I just don’t like the way it makes me feel [to be out-of-control drunk]. Especially in this business where you’ve got to watch the snakes in the grass. I could be blitzed out of my skull and somebody might be plotting to snuff me in the club. I really like being more alert. I go out every once in a while. Not as much as I used to. Particularly in L.A., it’s tough because of the paparazzi. Even though it’s not going to happen, they’re waiting to see me f*cking stumble out of a club again.

[New Video]: Jennifer Lopez – ‘Papi’

Jennifer Lopez drives the boys wild in the action-packed video for “Papi,” the RedOne-produced single off this year’s LOVE? After taking a bite of a magical cookie, the unsuspecting superstar starts to attract an excessive amount of male attention. She races through the streets of downtown Los Angeles in her Fiat as suitors break their necks to get a glimpse of her, jumping out of windows, leaping off buildings, and even crashing their vehicles. The chaotic scene transforms into a flash mob of dancers, who perform choreographed moves as all hell breaks loose. Watch Jenny cause a riot on the block.
